Where do I start with this post? Well if you have been reading my blog for a long time, you may have noticed that I have a new section here on The Brough Blog - Technology and Me. This is something I have been wanting to write about for a long time but never knew which item to start with until the lovely people at Panasonic contacted me about writing a review for this amazing machine to which I screamed yes! Of course all of the opinions are completely my own, so I hope you join me on the ride! The full name of the item is the Panasonic DMR-PWT550EB (Imagine typing that name into the machine at Argos) and it was lovingly packaged to me within days. I must admit that I jumped for joy when it turned up, and almost broke the damn thing whilst excitedly ripping the packaging apart. The box itself was lovingly packaged with no way of the machine from shifting, or falling out which amazed me as it's quite a large appliance. Panasonic had also lovingly included a Blu-Ray for me to watch too, which I thought was a very thoughtful thing to send. Now to the good part. How well it works. Well setting it up was easy as pie. Three cables were included and they popped straight in (Aerial Cable, HDMI Cable and Power Supply Lead) without any hassle, and as they were all packaged so well, there was no tangles in the leads that lead you to pulling you hair out and wandering why you bothered? The unit itself is very sleek, powerful and looks really professional. It put our old devices to shame and caused me to fall in love straight away. It has a part matte top, with a shiny finish to the front, and as I am a clumsy mother something, you will be happy to know that it is super easy to clean. The only thing that was negative about the machine itself is that it is very wide. It is alot wider than my XBOX ONE but it's definitely worth making the space for it. The remote itself looked like it had fallen straight out of an alien's ship, straight into my hand. There are hundreds of buttons, and I will be honest, it took me a few minutes to figure out that alot of them were actually there for your ease. Such as instead of scrolling through one huge menu to find the option you are looking for, it is broken down into two menus buttons, that are easily identifiable - and if that isn't easy enough for you, then there is an even simpler home page with everything brightly labelled with big pictures so you will never get lost. As an avid Netflix girl myself, I was thoroughly impressed with the Netflix button. Oh yes, you will always be one button away from your best friend. The only one fault that I could find is that there is no Eject button! There is of course one on the machine, but due to always having a remote with the button on, it completely threw me for a few seconds. Speaking of eject button, when you do figure out that the button on top of the machine is for ejecting you will fall in love like I did. When it ejects your Blu Ray Discs, it automatically opens the front panel for you, and then closes it on the return. Now I won't lie to you, I spent a good 10 minutes simply opening and closing the draw, fascinated. So what can it actually do? Well that's a small question for the big answer. In short? Everything. To start off with, it's a Freeview player, so no pesky bills each month for Sky or TeVo. "But I love to pause my shows!" I hear you scream, well have no fear! So can this. You can pause, record and rewind just like Sky, so you will never miss a thing no matter how many toilet breaks you need during your most recent episode of Orange is the new black (I still need to watch the newest season!). Not only that, but the box itself will record all of last weeks shows, so not only do you not need to record anything, but you will never miss any show. No matter how short or crazy it is! No longer will you need to miss those creepy wedding shows in fear of scaring your partner, you can wait until they're gone and secretly watch them yourself - not to mention with 500GB storage, you'll never run out of space. Not only that but it's a DVD and Blu-Ray player. The best of both worlds, and the quality and speed of play is absolutely amazing. I've never seen a Blu-Ray load quicker. It can turn any TV into a smart TV as long as it has a HDMI port, which let's be honest. Unless you are watching black and white and are banging on the top to make it work, we all have one! To top it all off you can watch YouTube Videos, Netflix, Amazon Prime, watch from a USB and download plenty of more options, so you will never run out of things to watch. Even when you have scrolled through hundreds of channels complaining nothing else is on. In general I think this is amazing device, with so many features and options, you'll be entertained for hours. I truly was - and let's be honest. If I can figure it out so can you! With Christmas dawning, and amazing films on every night, what better time than now to pick up your space age remote and start dabbling in alien technology. You won't regret it. You can find out more here!

This sounds ideal for Christmas with so many options for things to watch. The remote looks a bit scary. I still don't know what all the buttons on the remote control I have are for.
